What is a Percentage to GPA Calculator?
Most schools in India, the UK, and several other countries report academic performance as a percentage (e.g. 78%), while US universities, scholarships, and graduate programs typically use a GPA on a 4.0 scale. This free Percentage to GPA Calculator converts your percentage marks into the equivalent GPA in seconds — no signup, no math required.
The tool supports three widely-used conversion scales so you can pick the one that matches your transcript or the school you are applying to.
How to Convert Percentage to GPA
- Enter your percentage: Type in your overall percentage (e.g. 85.5). Decimals are allowed.
- Choose a scale: Select US 4.0 for American colleges, Pakistan HEC 4.0 for Pakistani universities, Indian 10-point CGPA for Indian universities, or WES 4.0 for international transcript evaluation.
- Read your GPA: The converted GPA, letter grade (where applicable), and academic classification appear instantly.
- Copy or reset: Use the Copy button to grab a clean text summary, or Reset All to start over.
Conversion Formulas Used
- US 4.0 Scale (range-based): 93–100% = 4.0 (A), 90–92% = 3.7 (A−), 87–89% = 3.3 (B+), 83–86% = 3.0 (B), and so on down to F below 60%.
- Pakistan HEC 4.0: The Higher Education Commission undergraduate scale used by NUST, FAST, COMSATS, UET, and most HEC-recognized universities. 85+ = 4.0 (A), 80–84 = 3.7 (A−), 75–79 = 3.3 (B+), 71–74 = 3.0 (B), down to F below 50%.
- Indian 10-point CGPA:
CGPA = Percentage ÷ 9.5. This is the formula recommended by CBSE and used by most Indian universities. - WES 4.0: The World Education Services tiered conversion frequently used to evaluate international transcripts (85+ = 4.0, 80–84 = 3.7, 75–79 = 3.3, etc.).
Who Should Use This Tool?
- Students applying to US colleges or grad school: Convert your school percentage into the 4.0 GPA most US applications expect.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a single official Percentage-to-GPA formula?
No. Different countries, universities, and evaluators use different formulas. The three scales offered here cover the most common cases. Always check what the institution you're applying to specifically requires.
Why does my Indian percentage give a CGPA above 10?
It can't — the result is capped at 10.0. The CBSE formula (Percentage ÷ 9.5) maxes out around 95% = 10.0 CGPA, which is by design.
Will this match my official transcript exactly?
It will give you a very close estimate. Official evaluators (like WES) may also factor in course difficulty, institution reputation, and grading distribution. Use this tool for self-assessment and planning.
Does this calculate weighted GPA?
No. This converts a single overall percentage to an unweighted GPA. If you need a weighted GPA across multiple courses with credit hours, use our GPA Calculator instead.
Is my data saved?
No. Everything is computed locally in your browser and is gone the moment you close the tab.
